Project-manager-turned-comedian? That’s Vic Alejandro. He’s a case study on why you shouldn’t be afraid to do what you love. On the show Vic inspired us to overcome apprehension to follow our goals and go for it. Here were a few tips from the show:
Do what you enjoy. The easiest way to be successful is to enjoy what you do. How much more will you accomplish when you wake up in the morning excited to face the day? We were built with unique talents, and when we use those talents, we feel energized. When we operate in the area of our talents, we get a higher return on investment.
Don’t be afraid to fail. We don’t give ourselves enough latitude to fail. It’s during times of failure we learn the most. Success is getting up one more time. For more tips about making the most out of failure read this.
Positive self-talk. Reminding ourselves of our ability to overcome our obstacles and succeed aids in our success. We need to quiet the inner critic. The voice in our heads should be our biggest cheerleader. Positive thoughts help us overcome the tough times. For more thoughts check out this post.
Have a plan. We use a term in project management called risk management. When we take the leap to follow our dreams, we should manage the risk. Calculate the odds of failure, and then build yourself a safety net. If you think generating income might take 6-12 months, you should have that much in monthly expenses set aside. Having a plan takes a lot of stress off pursuing your goals.
Work hard. Vic mentioned he had never worked so hard, and it paid off. No one said achieving something huge would be easy, but at least if you enjoy it, it will be fun.
