One of the latest hit shows, Duck Dynasty, is a reality show with morals. I had the chance to attend a press conference and even got to ask a question! The overriding theme I took from Willie and Phil was the importance of principles.
Principles these days have become somewhat generic. Companies taut the same principles such as integrity, diversity, and community involvement. Standing for something bigger than that stirs the pot, and we don’t want to do that in our current cultural environment.
The folks at Duck Dynasty feel differently. First and foremost they stand for God, and if you don’t have “the blood of Jesus” flowing through your veins, you aren’t family. Family is important to them, and so is loving your neighbor.
Phil and Willie lead by example. They don’t use foul language, and they don’t believe in being mean to anyone. I also loved they emphasized that they aren’t perfect, and that they fail, too.
What do you stand for? What are you willing to put yourself on the line for? Authenticity is powerful. When our words and our actions align, people can trust us. Lead by example. Trust in what you believe.
