Do you ever become disheartened when facing what seems like an insurmountable obstacle? Sometimes those obstacles are so huge that we abandon our goals. This week we had Kris Harty, aka “The Short Chick with the Walking Stick,” on the show talking about overcoming challenges blocking our path to success. Here were a few of the tips mentioned:
Are you being realistic? When you are faced with a barrier, reexamine what you want to accomplish and how quickly you are trying to complete it. At times we can be unrealistic in our expectations; while the overall goal is still possible, it may need to be re-planned into a more appropriate time-frame.
Where is your focus? If you are overwhelmed, take your eyes off the barrier and focus on the next step. It should be a small enough step that it’s achievable. This helps you overcome the deer-in-the-headlights syndrome you can get when you are collapsing under the stress. Stop thinking of EVERYTHING you have to accomplish; instead, think about the next thing you have to accomplish.
Are you going with the flow? Often we make plans that are too rigid. There are detours, a few backward steps, and even better paths when we are on the path to our dreams. It’s important to adapt and adjust to the roadblocks you come upon.
Don’t lose heart when faced with an obstacle! Taking the right steps can help you overcome. On the show, we also talked about tips to move past broken dreams or goals you have had to let go of, as well as ways increase your chances of achieving your goals.
